Strange and
Historical Stories of UFOs in Great Britain
This is a
wonderful collection of historical UFO sightings in Britain recorded by the
British Tourist Board.
The first reports of
‘modern’ UFO sightings seem to have occurred in 1909 of airships and they
continued right up to the start of the First World War.
This is where the fun
starts, surprisingly there are weird accounts going back to almost the start of
the modern calendar. As modern as it gets…! And I don’t mean present
day…
In AD 664 (see what I mean?)
recorded by the Venerable Bede (who?) a light that “made the sun at midday dark”
appeared at one side of Barking monastery before moving on to the other side.
(Fair enough…!)
Here’s an early abduction
case for you… Reported by Venerable Bede of a nun watching a corpse being
“carried upwards”.
A little later (14th
century), during the funeral of the Abbot of Durham Abbey, a “light like the
rays of the sun” descended and moved around.
Now then – in World War I –
long before Roswell, in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, a woman saw a round platform object
floating 10 metres off the ground.
It had a handrail around it
with about ten men on the platform wearing blue uniforms and little round hats.
It remained in view for more than five minutes.
In 1939, a grey bell liked
object was seen hovering over a field near Brockworth,
Gloucestershire.
In 1954, there were a number
of sightings in the north of Britain and one of the clearest photographs taken
of a ‘flying saucer’ was shot in Coniston, Cumbria in February of that year.
Two weeks later, a man
claimed to have ‘spoken’ to an alien near Lossiemouth, Scotland.
In 1957, a radar station
followed a large UFO all over the west of Scotland.
A huge flying
saucer was seen by people over Wardle in Lancashire in that same
year.
In 1960, a tramp who had
gone missing from Carlisle, Cumbria claimed he’d been on a five-year voyage with
aliens.
In 1972, a security card in
Oldham, Greater Manchester, heard a humming noise, when he turned round he saw a
UFO about 30 metres in diameter. It had a large window brightly lit with a blue
light.
After five minutes, it
turned on edge showing it was saucer shaped with a large dome. Then it shot
straight up into the air.
At Tittensor, Staffordshire,
1977, a cigar shaped object was seen, it was 12 metres long with a small dome on
top and was flying about 30 metres above the ground. It was in view for about
thirty seconds.
In 1979, a pilot over
Bolton, Lancashire, saw a bright circular object about 12 metres across moving
below him. Minutes later he saw two more moving in the opposite direction at
about 250 miles per hour.
In 1988, a stranded flying
saucer was spotted at the side of the road near Kendal, Cumbria.
But the best places in
Britain to find UFO activity seem to be Warminster in Wiltshire, Barmouth in
North Wales and Bonnybridge in Scotland.
And, yeah, Britain had its
own Roswell incident involving a crashed saucer or even saucers, though Britain
has seen more than its fair share of crashed saucers according to reports.
On January 24th 1974, Cader
Bronwen, witnesses in Cheshire and Lancashire saw a number of green lights
crossing the sky haphazardly.
Just after 8:30pm, an object
crashed into Cader Bronwen, a mountain in Clwyd, Wales. Just what the police
investigating the scene of crash saw has never been made public, though black
unmarked helicopters were on site almost immediately and possibly carrying rapid
deployment personnel.
The army arrived that night
and cordoned the area off, dismissing police and crash investigators.
A nurse living in
the vicinity of the crash states she saw a saucer the size of the Royal Albert
Hall crash into the mountain. She allegedly walked to the crash site and saw
bodies that were not human.
She was then silenced in the
interest of National Security, and from that time, it is said green pieces of
metal recovered from the rocks of Cader Bronwen have been shown to give off an
electrical charge.
Shortly before New Year
1981, there were a number of UFO reports near Ipswich, Suffolk, where it is
claimed that a UFO crash-landed in Rendlesham Forest, 2 miles from U.S.
Woodbridge airbase.
According to investigators,
an officer at the airbase claimed to have spoken to the occupants of the craft
(they were about 1 metre (3 feet) in height) who asked for help in repairing the
craft. (Well would you believe it?)
The aliens, well, they fixed
it themselves, and took off and the soldiers, or airmen, that took the photos,
wait for it, had them confiscated.
In separate verifications of
the unnamed officer’s account, Forestry Commission workers reportedly found a
number of burnt trees in the vicinity of where the crash happened.

I can assure you this
interesting… Well known British MPs in on the act – actually wanting to know the
truth of what happened out there, accepting what did happen… Something landed
out there… It’s a well know incident that has had many a discussion in the
Houses of Parliament.
Wiltshire, England, Boscombe
Down, August 1994, several witnesses saw a UFO over Salisbury Plain near
Stonehenge. It crashed into Boscombe Down runway - it was taken to a U.S. Air
Force Base in America.
Make what you will out of
this little lot…!
