Essential Skills to Business Success!...by Sonia Colon
Businesses mainly
fail due to lack of planning. Regardless of the type of business you're
running, skills play a major role.
The following skills are
important to have when owning and maintaing a business:
People
Skills:
People make or break your business. You make or brake your
business, because you are your business. The way you deal with people will
determine much of your business success. How many times have you decide not
to return to a certain store because the cashier, clerk or manager
were rude to you? On the other hand, how many times have you been
impressed by a business person going out of his or her way to help you,
which meant repeat business for them?
Good manners, politeness and
attentiveness to your customer's needs are what will ensure repeat business.
Customers need to feel that they are important. Never ever burn your bridges
by treating people badly. Respect those with whom you deal with on a
daily basis. Treat each person with the same respect you would expect to
receive.
Financial Skills:
You have to be financially
knowledgeable in the business world. Otherwise, how can you understand the
overall concept of doing business? How would you understand the meaning of
profitability? Your entrepreneurial knowledge should include basic
accounting, organizational and administrative skills. No one was born a
business HOT SHOT, however, there are an abundance of courses
available to fit your financial needs.
Personal Skills:
A
healthy self esteem is necessary for you to tackle each day positively and
productively. As an entreprenuer, you will spend alot of time working alone.
Please listen to your heart but consult your head before making a decision.
Keep yourself motivated and organized. Read self-help books, take courses or
talk to a mentor. You will need these positive skills to communicate and
interact with others and to market your business. You are selling yourself
to your customers, not just your product or service.
Technical
Skills:
Your customers will come to you looking to you as being an
expert in your field. That is what you have to be in order to succeed in
your business. Your customers will put trust in your skills and you
should never let them down. Be the expert, be professional or don't be
in business.
Marketing Skills:
You will need to learn how to
market your business. Without some type of marketing knowledge, you will not
have any customers. In a nutsell, marketing is the ability to communicate to
your potential customers and inform them of your products or services. The
most effective form of marketing is one-on-one communication skills and
knowing how to define and target your market. Learn what works best for
your business. Study your competitors and decide if their marketing will
work for your business as well. Read books, talk to others in a similiar
field and observe how other businesses market their products or service.
Your marketing will change from time to time. You have to decide when to
change along with it.
Communication Skills:
You may need to
communicate with customers, lawyers, accountants, bank managers etc. Now is
the time to sharpen your communication skills if they have become a little
rusty. Good communication skills will reduce the chance of being
misunderstoond. Communication skills are essential for business.
Many prominent business people owe a good part of their business
success to highly effective communication.
Implement the above
skills and you too will be successful!
