Is Your Business in Motion?
Copyright 2004 John M. Hanevy

One of the basic laws of physics is Newton's 1st law. This states that a body at rest will tend to remain at rest, while a body in motion and moving at a constant velocity will tend to remain
in motion. The same thing can be said about your business. Is your business in motion, or at rest?

The key to getting your business in motion is to advertise! Not just once, but several times in as many different places as possible-especially if you are using free advertising to promote your business. There are several options available to do this--viral
websites, safelists, and free classified websites are a few examples. Most people need to see an advertisement several times before they act upon it.

Another way to promote your site is by using ezines, newsletters, or paid website ads. This can range in price from free to $50 or more depending on where the ad is placed and what type of ad is purchased. Typically, you will pay around $25 for a 30-day ad on a targeted website.

Ezine ads will only be published once usually, you can expect to pay $30 or more for a top sponsor ad. Paid advertising is better than free advertising since it is targeted, but it can get very expensive, very quickly. You must choose your target market carefully, and track your ads to weed out the ones that don't work.

One way to reduce the costs of paid advertising and still get the
benefits of a targeted audience is to use advertising co-ops. Members of an advertising co-op purchase "shares" of a lead pool. The manager of the co-op does all of the advertising, and splits the leadsgenerated among the co-op members. Because the ads are "targeted", the leads have more value than those from free, or general, audiences.

Co-op ads are normally placed in several highly targeted locations,
not just one. In effect, you are buying a share of several
highly-targeted paid ads, or lead sources. You save money on
advertising, since you only pay once, not several times. You also save
time, since you don't have to search to find good targeted places to
advertise--and time is money! Advertising co-ops can save you both
time and money.

Advertising your business constantly and consistently is very
important to your success. Keeping up with the latest marketing
trends, learning new marketing techniques and new tools is equally
important. Why reinvent the wheel? You can gain much useful
information by reading about, and studying, other top marketers.

Do a search for "marketing" or "sales techniques" and you will find
useful sites to check out. Subscribe to newsletters and ezines on
marketing, or on your target audience interests--health, for example.
You will not only gain some useful information, but you will also get
marketing ideas as you read and study ads by others. Study other
successful people carefully, whatever they're doing works!
